Welcome!

Hi!

Welcome to our class website. We will use this site to post announcements, updates, and homework support.

Feel free to look around! This main page will be used for posting general third grade announcements. There are several extra pages in the “Resources” column on the right. We have posted some math websites under "helpful websites" (along with a few other important links). There are links to several different resources for practicing times tables under “math facts.” You can also find ideas for practicing spelling assignments, as well as a list of words for each week under "spelling practice ideas" and “spelling lists.” If you have more ideas to add to either of these lists, please let me know!!

We have included a general curriculum outline for all subjects, as well as links to the core curriculum as outlined by the state.

Each third grade teacher also has a separate page for posting their weekly newsletters.

HOMEWORK:

This year, third graders will be asked to do reading, spelling, and math homework every night. We would like students to read on their own for a set amount of time every day, practice their spelling words (any way you choose) once a day, and practice math facts (particularly times tables – starting around October), for a little bit of time every day. We will also have an optional UTIPs assignment that can replace math practice one night a week. These UTIPs assignments can be VERY valuable, since they are structured very closely to the way students will be tested at the end of the year. We encourage your student to do these whenever possible.

We will also upload a few extra math worksheets (to this main page) for each week's math focus. If your child is struggling to pass off their times tables/math facts, PLEASE encourage them to spend time practicing them every day. If your child has passed off their times tables and needs something else to do for homework, you can start with the UTIPs assignment for one night, then use pages/resources from this website for other nights. Of course, it is good to make sure your child stays up to speed with their times tables so he/she doesn't forget them by the time he/she gets to fourth grade!

Here are a few notes about the weekly math assignments we plan to post:
-Some of the worksheets are links to another website that we trust. Just click on the title of the worksheet to get to the website. We will try to publish the worksheets without a link to outside sources whenever we can.
-Worksheets have been uploaded as JPEGs (pictures). To print the worksheet, just click on the picture. This will bring up the worksheet in a different program on your computer. You should be able to print it from there.
-We have a few "Math Challenge" pages to post throughout the rest of the year. These assignments are specifically designed to challenge your student and make them think of creative ways to solve a problem - they may be difficult!

Thanks for visiting! Again, if you have any questions or comments, please contact one of us!
