Although they will NOT be tested this year from the Science and Social Studies Curriculum, we are of course still teaching these subjects. They will be tested on Science in Fourth grade (along with Math and Language Arts). In fifth grade, Social Studies (as well as a specific persuasive writing test) will be added to the list of subjects to be tested.
Although this is the Core Curriculum we have been assigned to follow this year, the State of Utah will be adopting a new curriculum in 2012. We will begin teaching aspects of it in the 2011-2012 school year - particularly in WRITING. We are really excited about the new core, because we believe that although the content is essentially the same, it is more cohesive and more specific than the one we are currently using.
