__________________________________________________________________________
Dear Parents,
This looks to be another busy week in 3rd
Grade. I hope you and your student had a great weekend. Here is a look at what is planned for this week.
Spelling #2
Here is a complete list of the spelling words for this week.
want, was, off, pond, luck, drop, lot, rub, does,
drum, sock, hunt, crop, shut, front, spot, much,
dodge, crumb, crunchy, topic, grumpy, fluffy, pumpkin,
trust.
Remember there is a spelling list under Boyer/Taylor spelling lists.
I also give a dictated sentence test. Have your child practice writing the sentences from memory as you repeat the sentence for them.
Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation.
Note: The words a lot are two words.

1. There are fish in the pond.
2. Jamal has good luck.
3. Do not drop the dish.
4. We ate a lot of fish.
5. Mom will rub my back.

Reading
Remember your child is suppose to be reading 20 minutes each day. Please have them read 5-10 minutes of that time out loud with you so that you can check for expression, sentence run-ons (when you read out loud you should stop/pause at the end of the sentence) and pronouncing the words correctly.
Reading calendars for August are due at the end of the week.
Math
We are still reviewing addition and subtraction facts. This week we will focus on subtraction facts. I am sending home subtraction papers for the students to practice with. These do not have to come back to school. Students should be able to do either the addition or subtraction page in less than 4 minutes.

We went on our first field trip last week to Willy Wonka's Candy Factory and helped package caramels. We will be reviewing place value in numbers and the rule of 10.
Ask your child about it when they get home today.

Science
We will be finishing up our unit on Spiders & Insects this week and giving our Great Brain Reports on either spiders or insects.
Remember these are optional reports, but a lot of fun for the students to research
about.

VIP Student
Our first VIP (Very Important Person) will be Warner. I will send home a letter about the VIP student the week before it is your child's turn. Please try to get your students posters done now and sent back to school so we have them.

Parents remember if your child is absent from school you do need to call the school and excuse them. This needs to be done within the week of the absence. If you know you are going out of town, call and let the office know ahead of time. 801-489-2810

Remember you can contact me at nancy.taylor@nebo.edu or 801-489-2810 and leave a message. I will call you back after school.

Have a great week.
Mrs. Taylor

Welcome Back To School
I can't believe the first day of school is here already.  I am so excited to be teaching this year.  Right now we have 25 students in our class.  That is small for us.

We will be jumping right into school work since we have a full week of school.

Parents were given a copy of the spelling words for the whole year at Back to School Night.  If you did not get your copy one will be coming home this week.     We are on Unit #1.  A copy of the words can be found under Mrs. Boyer/ Taylor Spelling words.  We have different spelling books that is why the words are in different order from Mrs. Searle's  words.  Dictated sentences  need to be practice at home. Students write in their best handwriting while  you repeat the sentence to them.  Spelling tests will be given on Friday afternoon.  I am sorry you won't know your child's score until the following Monday.  I will send the test home on Monday after I record the score.

Please help your child review their Addition & Subtraction Fast Facts.  We will be working on them for a couple of weeks.

We will also start our cursive books this week.  I may send home a page for them to practice at home along with the home row keys  on the computer.

I will  be introducing the  Great Brain Reports.  These are optional reports for students to do about interesting subjects.  Spiders & Insects will be our first subject.  I will send home a small booklet later in the week that will have all the information in it. Remember 5 or more reports given during the school year and the student earns a medallion and becomes a member of the Great Brain Club ( Science).

Reading- Students need to read 20 minutes each day 5-7 days a week.   Mrs. Smith, Grant School Librarian said, "Just make sure you read on the days that you eat."  Good advice.

Remember you can contact me - nancy.taylor@nebo.edu or call and leave a message at
school 801)489-2810 I will call back at the end of the school day.
