DECEMBER HAPPENINGS

December looks to be as busy as November was for our Third Graders.
Students are working on their Great Brain Reports about Holiday Customs.
We have been reading about families that have come to America to start new lives with their families. We know that when families move they bring with them customs and traditions from their own families. We would like to learn about each others customs and traditions that they share with their families. We want to hear from all the students. Students will be presenting these reports in their individual classes. Each teacher has a different schedule. Students need to talk to their
teachers about when their reports should be done.

MATH
All the students are learning their multiplication facts 1-12. Students need to have these facts memorized by April 1. All students will be participating in an ice cream party in April. How much ice cream they get to eat will be determined by the number of fact families they have learned. Students can keep track of their own progress in their classrooms.

Language Arts & Writing
We have had so much fun learning the different parts of speech and how to best write stories. This month we are focusing on information writing.

Reading
Parents please help your child read out loud for 10 minutes each night. Share a book with them and read it more than once. Reading out loud helps students learn to put expression into their reading and builds their fluency.
